Laurent was a PhD student in the Biophysics program at Harvard University. He earned a B. Eng. in Engineering physics, minoring in Biomedical Engineering at École Polytechnique de Montréal (Université de Montréal). He then worked on improving methods to look at spatio-temporal dynamics of fluorescent proteins by exploiting stochastic fluctuations (Image Correlation Spectroscopy) while obtaining his M.Sc. in Physics at McGill University in Paul Wiseman's laboratory. His research interests include using synthetic biology to understand the role of stochastic fluctuations in biological oscillations and measuring single-cell degradation rates.
